Bowman Gray notes
Richmond race on TV, what Richmond race? The stadium was totally packed, standing room only crowd. Traffic was backed up all the way over one mile to the interstate. I just can't imasgine people thought they could get there close to race time and find either a place to park or to sit. Go figure! It was the biggest crowd I have ever seen at BG.
Racing was good, Tim Brown won the 200 lap modified race. He had the pole and suvived the charges of Burt Myers on the double file restarts and even lost the lead only to pass Lee Jeffeys on the outside to reclaim the lead. Brian Loftin was 3rd, Junior Miller was 4th, Dean Ward was 5th, Burt was 6th as he pitted for tires twice late in the race. Ace Speedway's Brian King was 7th and even battled for 2nd late in the race. There was lots of action on the track, Junior and Burt raced side by side hard but clean. Junior's deal with R&L Carriers is reported to be $100,000. The crowd in the pits after at the Madhouse Stars pits was enormous, bigger than most tracks have in the grandstands. Sportsman started 24 cars, Street Stocks 25, the two Mini Stock races had 51 cars total. Next week is a 100 lap modified race with double file restarts, and a complete redraw after the fastest 24 cars qualify and there is also a demo derby so it wil be packed again.
