"Oklahoma's Only NASCAR Track!"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saturday May 8, 2010
MUSKOGEE, OK– The last thing Tahlequah’s Jason Teague – and his grand-mother – wanted to see was a caution flag with one lap to go. That setup a green-white-checkered finish in the hotly contested Modified feature at Outlaw Motor Speedway here Friday night.
With Jeanie Teague cheering her grandson on, Teague withstood a serious challenge on the final lap from former track champion Greg Skaggs to win his first feature of the year. Scant inches separated Teague and Skaggs at the checkered flag
The run to the checkered flag was one of two last-lap thrillers witnessed by the 3,300 fans bundled up to the unseasonable cool weather. In the Grand Nationals, Muskogee’s Dale Richardson just nudged Collinsville’s Brian Parker with a surge at the finish line to win his second feature of the night. Earlier, Richardson won the Factory Stock feature.
Going into that last lap of the 20-lap Modified feature, it could have been a four-car sprint to the flag with Fort Smith’s George Martin and last year’s track champ Joe Duvall (Chelsea) in third and fourth behind Teague and Skaggs. But the two leaders guessed correctly on the flagman’s restart and jumped the field to turn the race into a two-car affair.
Skaggs tried to nudge his nose in front of Teague’s car in turns one and two, but the race victor kept his high line and held off the challenge. In turns three and four, Skaggs went back to his favorite low groove in a bid for the win, but the high-line favored Teague and he rocketed out of turn four to the flag.
Grand Nationals
Richardson – in winning for the third time this season – led every lap, but it appeared he might surrender his lead in the white flag lap when Parker got in front coming out of turn two. The track’s top feature winner of all time (58 checkered flags in three different classes) got a good run on Parker in turns three and four, and with a sudden burst yards from the flag stand, he made the pass for the win by less than a foot.
Muskogee’s Colton Dunlap, who set the early-season pace in the division with four feature victories, finished third with David Whittle, Muskogee, fourth,
For practically the entire race, anyone of the six drivers had an opportunity to win. It took Richardson and Parker 15 laps to get separation from the field.
Factory Stock
It was another good night for the United Auto racing team. Led by Richardson, the United team finished one-two-three. Richardson owns outright the car driven by Muskogee’s Matt Burnett, who finished third, behind Tahlequah’s Kyle Stevens. According to Richardson, he owns the motor that is in Stevens’ car.
Richardson took the lead on lap two, coming all the way from ninth place at the start. After two laps he was second, and then he went to the lead after a restart for a spin-out a lap later.
Lee McLain, Chouteau, last week’s winner, chased Richardson for five laps – until a mishap sent him to the pits. That opened the door for Stevens and Burnett to chase the leader.
It was a sweet win for Richardson. He finished second to McLain last week, but his car was disqualified after it failed to pass technical inspection – illegal rocker arms. Everything was fine this time around.

Patrick Goodnight became only the second repeat winner when he collected the checkered flag in the feature. He joins Inola’s Justin Shoemaker as the only two-time winners in the first eight weeks of the season.
The Braggs driver survived a restart with two laps remaining for the win.
Goodnight inherited the lead from Bixby’s Matt Rhine on lap 11 when Rhine had mechanical problems in turn two. His rear-end locked up. To that point, Rhine had led the race from lap one, jumping to the front from the third position.
Shoemaker finished second, with Martin Hemphill, Spiro, third. Muskogee’s Shannon Reheard and Chuck Bumgarner were fourth and fifth.
Pure Stock
Just when it looked bleak for Spinner Mathison, the Checotah driver got hooked up and came back to win his first feature of the year. Mathison had led from the start, but he lost control of his car in turn two on lap eight, dropping two spots to third, and surrendering the lead to Broken Arrow’s Richard Foster.
Avoiding the wall, Mathison got back into the action and moved to second on lap nine. Then, on lap 11 he passed Foster out of turn two and led the rest of the way to record his first feature win of the year.
Foster held on to finish second with Tyler Chambers, Welling, third.
ASCS Sprint
Consistently turning laps in the 15-second range, Jason Johnson ran away to win the 25-lap feature. The Eunice, LA., driver had an eight second lead over Tony Bruce, Wichita, Kan. Norman’s Danny Wood was third.
“It was an extremely fast track.” Johnson said. “I just kept my foot in the gas and hit my marks. It was an easy drive.
About the only thing that could have slowed him down was traffic, but he was able to negotiate around the slower cars with ease.
